The longtime general manager at this Palm Beach Gardens resort has resigned

The longtime general manager of the PGA National Resort & Spa has resigned his post and vacated his seat on the county’s Tourist Development Council.

Joel Paige, who became general manager at PGA National the year before the Honda Classic arrived in 2007, said Friday he left the post late last year and is now running his own consulting business. The firm specializes in hospitality, tourism and recruiting, he said.

Following his resignation, Paige stepped down from his seat on the county tourism board, which advises the county commission on the state of the local tourism industry.

“I’m ready for a new challenge,” Paige said. “I was given a great opportunity. It was time for me to move on.”

County commissioners are set to consider Paige’s replacement at a meeting Tuesday, said Glenn Jergensen, executive director of the county’s Tourist Development Council.
