All Aboard Florida work to close intersections in West Palm Beach

Three residential streets in West Palm Beach will be closed at the Florida East Coast Railway tracks this week as All Aboard Florida completes work for its Brightline passenger rail service.

Avenida Hermosa, El Vedado and Monroe Drive will be closed to traffic at the FEC tracks beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. The residential streets are located West of Dixie Highway  between Belvedere Road and Southern Boulevard.

The roads are expected to reopen by 6 p.m. on  Aug. 13, All Aboard said.

All Aboard Florida has been closing railroad crossings throughout Palm Beach County periodically as it works to install a second set of tracks on the FEC line.

As part of the rail work, All Aboard’s Brightline is also making safety upgrades needed to silence train horns at rail intersections from Boca Raton to West Palm Beach. County transportation planners are paying for the “quiet zone” improvements.

The company said Monday that it has completed more than 60 percent of the planned crossing work in the City of West Palm Beach.

As part of the work set to begin Wednesday, Brightline officials said  the existing track will be lowered to accommodate the construction of the second track and the company’s passenger trains.
