Lawmakers wants retail centers to provide breastfeeding areas, expectant mother parking

Some Florida retail centers would be required to provide breastfeeding areas and parking spots for expectant mothers under a bill filled in Tallahassee last week by a Broward County lawmaker. MCC-PREGNANT WOMAN.JPG

The bill (SB 650), filed by State Sen. Lauren Book, D-Plantation, would require shopping centers and retailers with more than 100 parking spots to set aside at least one space for expectant mothers.

Those same centers would also be required to provide a breastfeeding area for nursing mothers.

The legislation requires that those areas be “shielded from view and free from intrusion,” and bars them bring being placed in a dressing room or restroom. They must also have a locking door and a place to sit.
