McDonald’s hired two engineering firms to develop the straw — which is designed to deliver the perfect ratio of chocolate and mint flavor in the restaurant’s new layered Chocolate Shamrock Shake.

The company has dubbed its invention the “Suction Tube for Reverse Axial Withdraw” — an acronym for straw.

McDonald’s produced 2,000 of the snorkel-like straws and is giving them away at select locations across the country.
