Shoe Carnival plans to open a new location in the remodeled Westward Shopping Center on Okeechobee Boulevard just west of Congress Avenue.
The shoe retailer’s sign is up at the plaza and construction on the store in underway. It will move into space once occupied by PetSmart.
The Westward Shopping Center lost three large tenants — Old Navy, Sports Authority and PetSmart — when the Marketplace area at Palm Beach Outlets opened in 2014. The 300,000-square-foot Marketplace at the Outlets houses roughly 20 stores, most of which will are national chains and big box retailers, including the recently opened Whole Foods.
Since the exodus, Westward has gone through a rebirth.
Burlington, a national off-price retailer, opened in space that once housed Sports Authority. A Harbor Freight opened in Old Navy’s old spot.
