To mark the opening of its new Riviera Beach location, Dollar General plans to give away gift cards and other items as part of a celebration set for Saturday.
The first 50 people in line when the doors open at 8 a.m. Saturday will receive a $10 Dollar General gift card, the company said. The first 200 people will get a free Dollar General tote bag with complimentary product samples.
The store is located at 3701 Broadway in Riviera Beach.
“Dollar General is committed to delivering a pleasant shopping experience that includes a convenient location, a wide assortment of merchandise and great prices on quality products,” said Dan Nieser, Dollar General’s senior vice president of real estate and store development. “We hope our area customers will enjoy shopping at Dollar General’s new location.”
The 19,000-square-foot shop is the first Macy’s Backstage store in Palm Beach County.
It’s opening comes less than a month after Macy’s closed its CityPlace location. The 108,000-square-foot store in CityPlace is one of 68 locations the retailer plans to close this year as part of a downsizing effort aimed at boosting the retailer’s digital sales, outlet stores and luxury beauty division.
“We created Macy’s Backstage for the seasoned outlet shopper who enjoys the excitement of the treasure hunt but whose time and money is a commodity,” said Vanessa LeFebvre, senior vice president/general merchandise manager of Macy’s Backstage stores. “Our latest Backstage store is a convenient twist to the traditional outlet store format that we feel Macy’s and mall shoppers will enjoy and embrace, and we are thrilled to bring this new concept to Boynton Beach.”
“We continue to expand our retail presence in South Florida to meet the growing needs of our customers,” said Leon Duarte, market director for Cricket Wireless. “We want to make our products and services easily accessible to shoppers. This new store will help us do that.”
The store is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday.
The West Palm Beach-based Hurricane Grill & Wings brand plans to open 49 new restaurants as part of a new fast-casual concept it unveiled last year.
The company said it would expand its Hurricane BTW concept, (burgers, tacos and wings) over the next 3 1/2 years, adding as many as 11 new locations by the end of the year.
Hurricane BTW’s lab store opened in Ft. Lauderdale in April.
The company said it plans to open the first Hurricane BTW prototype location in Skokie, IL in late April. Between 8 and 10 more locations will open by the end of the year, the chain said.
““While the restaurant industry, specifically fast-casual, is down as of late, we have seen two trends: single entrée menus have driven brands (i.e. burgers, pizza, wings), and there is an overall drive for higher quality and higher average tickets,” said Brooksy Smith, Chief Brand Officer for Hurricane AMT (Hurricane Grill & Wings, Hurricane BTW and Hurricane Dockside) as well as President of Hurricane BTW. “At BTW, we are focusing on the three most popular single entrée items other than pizza and including them on our menu, and we are pricing our average ticket at $10. We feel that now is the right time for a broad menu with a value proposition in a casual market. And that’s why we are confident BTW will excel.”
To fill the openings, Cooper’s Hawk is holding a hiring fair on Monday and Tuesday (March 13 & 14). The event, which runs from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., will take place at the chain’s Palm Beach Gardens location inside The Gardens Mall (3101 PGA Boulevard).
“We are thrilled to be able to contribute to the growing job base in Palm Beach County,” said Tim McEnery, founder and CEO of Cooper’s Hawk. “We are currently looking to staff team members with a passion for wine, food and first-class hospitality and look forward to meeting and working with many great members of the community.”
The Palm Beach Gardens restaurant will become the chains 8th Florida location.

“At Cricket, our goal is to give customers something to smile about,” said Leon Duarte, market director for Cricket Wireless. “Our no-annual-contract wireless service and straightforward pricing are giving customers more value and continuing to redefine the customer experience.”
