Thanksgiving traffic at Palm Beach International to grow by 5 percent

The number of passengers flying in and out of Palm Beach International Airport during the busy Thanksgiving week rush is expected to grow by 5 percent this year, airport officials said Friday.

The airport estimates between 160,000 and 170,000 travelers will pass through its doors during Thanksgiving week, up from 155,000 during the same time period last year.

The busiest travel days are expected to be Wednesday, Nov. 23 and Saturday, Nov. 26, airport officials said.

Airfare is expected to drop by 8.2 percent this fall, hitting a low of $213 in October, according to the travel research firm Hopper.

Domestic round-trip airfare is expected to average about $216 this fall, up less than 1 percent from the same time frame last year and 16 percent below the fall of 2014, the research firm said.

Palm Beach International Airport may see some of the best deals in the country.

West Palm Beach ranks 8th on Hopper’s list of “Destinations to Watch” in August. Fares to the PBIA could fall by as much as 19 percent from their current level of $255, according to Hopper, which has an app alerting travelers of price drops for particular destinations.

Other domestic cities on Hopper’s list: Dallas, Austin, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Miami and Orlando.

Airports in Grenada, Grenada, Liberia, Coasta Rica and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic are among the top international destinations for savings, Hopper said.

Frontier Airlines via DealBase discounts is offering one-way fares nationwide with prices starting at $28.10, DealNews said.

American Airlines is offering one-way fares for as low asĀ  $38.10 via vendor ShermansTravel. Major hubs include Dallas, Chicago, Charleston, and Los Angeles for travel through Nov. 30, according to DealNews.

JetBlue is offering roundtrip fares to Florida through vendor ShermansTravel, according to DealNews. Prices start at $126.20, the website said.
